There is no river in the world that undergoes a transformation as dramatic as the Zambezi — and the Explore the Zambezi Flight places this spectacle, including the aerial passage over the Victoria Falls, at the very heart of the experience.
Operated by the Zambezi Helicopter Company, famed for the iconic Flight of Angels, this extended 22-minute scenic flight includes the same breathtaking views directly over the Falls, where the Zambezi plunges more than 100 metres across a 1.7-kilometre-wide curtain of water — a UNESCO-recognised natural wonder and one of the most powerful waterfalls on Earth.
What sets the Zambezi Explorer apart is what comes before and after this defining moment.
The flight launches from the Zambezi Helipad and joins the Batoka Gorge at Rapid Number 8, known to the rafting fraternity as Midnight Diner. Here, the helicopter follows the raging river from the top of the gorge, as it tears through the narrow confines of the canyon below— in places just 30 metres wide.
After soaring over the Falls, the journey continues upstream to Long Island, where the Zambezi transforms once again into a wide, meandering river dotted with islands and rich with wildlife. The flight finally passes over the Victoria Falls resort town before returning to the helipad.
The Explore the Zambezi Flight is not simply a longer flight — it is a complete aerial narrative of the river transformation, the Victoria Falls, and the landscape that surrounds one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders.

Even though I had only done a helicopter trip over the Okavango Delta in Botswana a few days earlier, I knew the only way to truly appreciate Victoria Falls was from the air! So another helicopter trip it was...... I booked the trip myself online a few days before arriving at Vic Falls, as I didn't want to miss out. I went for an early morning flight as google told me this was the best time. As the flight was going to be on the final day of my trip, I opted for the premium experience, and also upgraded from my original thoughts of only doing the 12 minute flight. I got my own private transfer to the helicopter base, and use of the lounge. I was the only one there - nice to have a glass of bubbles before and after my flight :-) Shalom was my pilot for the flight. She explained and pointed things out on our flight - I was lucky enough to get the front seat next to her. It was truly amazing to see the Falls and Zambezi River from the air. Mexen, the host in the lounge, was very attentive, and after my flight I relaxed in the lounge until my private transfer back to Shearwater arrived. I would totally recommend this experience. Yes, it is expensive, but I figured I would only visit Victoria Falls once in my life so it was totally worth splurging out!! - Heather
Unforgettable experience above one of the 7 wonders of the world. Great pilote, perfect logistics, very nice floorcrew - Leonard
The helicopter flight was a unique experience. The organisation worked wonderfully. - Christian
A must do experience at Victoria Falls. Professionally run service from pick up to drop off back at the hotel. We did the longer 22 minute flight which well worth the extra money. Throughly enjoyed every moment. - Barry
